HL Deb 07 November 1988 vol 501 cc532-3WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many families are now receiving family credit; and what proportion this represents of those estimated to be eligible.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Social Security (Lord Skelmersdale)

At the end of October, 248,000 families were receiving family credit and a further 57,500 claims were awaiting determination. A precise estimate of the number of families eligible for family credit, and therefore what proportion is represented by those already in receipt, cannot be made until information from the 1988 Family Expenditure Survey is available.
