HC Deb 16 May 1988 vol 133 c361W
51. Mr. Foulkes

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will meet the chairman of London Regional Transport to discuss the reduction of full-time cleaning staff on the London Underground subsequent to the King's Cross fire disaster.

52. Ms. Armstrong

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has discussed with the chairman of London Regional Transport the programme of cuts in station staff now being implemented on the London Underground; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

London Regional Transport has kept me informed of developments following the fire at King's Cross and I meet the chairman of London Regional Transport from time to time as the need arises. However, staffing levels are for London Regional Transport to determine in the light of their statutory duty to have due regard to safety, efficiency and economy of operation.
