HL Deb 15 June 1988 vol 498 c366WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will ask the Secretary General of the United Nations to explain why agencies of the United Nations are operating in the territory of East Timor, while it is still illegally occupied by Indonesia.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Glenarthur)

No. We see no reason why UN agencies which are undertaking useful work in the medical and social areas should not continue to operate there.
