To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he has any plans to implement in Northern Ireland any of the proposals contained in the Widdicombe committee report on the conduct of local government: what advice his Department is giving to local councillors on this subject; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 5 November 1987]: The report of the committee of inquiry into the conduct of local authority business related to local government in Great Britain. When decisions are taken on the application of the report's recommendations to local authorities in Great Britain, we shall assess their relevance to local government in Northern Ireland.
