HC Deb 04 March 1987 vol 111 cc623-4W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will give a breakdown by regional health authority of the number of premature deliveries by gestational age of the babies concerned; and if he will indicate in each group the percentage survival rate of such babies in each health authority in the latest year for which figures are available;

(2) if he will give a breakdown by estimated gestational age of the numbers of premature live births in England and Wales in each of the last five years for which figures are available; and if he will state how many of the babies in each case in each of those years survived.

Mrs. Currie

I shall let the hon. Member have replies as soon as possible.

Mr. McNamara asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will state the earliest gestational age at delivery of a premature baby which showed signs of life after birth in England and Wales in each of the last five years for which figures are available.

Mrs. Currie

I regret that the information requested is not available from the registration of live births, as period of gestation is not collected under this system.
