§ Mr. Norman LamontI assume my hon. Friend has in mind ways in which the tax system treats a married couple less favourably than two single people. The Green Paper "The Reform of Personal Taxation", published last year, discussed how these "tax penalties" on marriage might be removed. The Government are currently studying the public response to the Green Paper.
