HC Deb 10 February 1987 vol 110 cc183-4W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how long it took Scott-Greenham Limited to dispatch a 50-tonne crane to the scene of the convoy accident after it occurred in Wiltshire on 10 January.

Mr. Stanley

The 50-tonne crane provided by Scott-Greenham Limited arrived on site within two hours of the company being asked to dispatch it, having been put on readiness to do so somewhat. earlier.

Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how many 50-tonne cranes his Department owns or has at its disposal;

(2) if he will give the location of the 50-tonne cranes owned by, or at the disposal of, his Department on 10 January.

Mr. Stanley

I assume that the hon. Member is interested in 50-tonne road mobile cranes, rather than those which cannot be readily moved from their location—for example, at dockyards, workshops or units. The Department owns three such cranes and they are located in the Falklands where they were on 10 January. There are no central records of the number and location of 50-tonne road mobile cranes which the Department has on hire.
