HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 c29W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, pursuant to his answer to the right hon. Member for the Western Isles of 15 July concerning census forms, he will introduce legislation providing for the availability of forms in Gaelic.

Mr. Rifkind

For the 1981 census the Registrar General arranged that some Gaelic speaking enumerators would be employed in certain areas of Scotland. I understand that, as part of the planning process, he will consider the desirability of making similar arrangements for the 1991 census.

I have at present no plans for introducing legislation on this matter.

Mr. Donald Stewart

Mr. Rifkind

I have at present no plans to do so.
