HL Deb 14 June 1985 vol 464 c1550WA
Baroness Stedman

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which two registered companies have been engaged in unlicensed broadcasting in the United Kingdom and what action has been, or is being, taken against them.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Lord Lucas of Chilworth)

One company is Maintime Ltd. of Stockport, which was engaged in the running of the unlicensed broadcasting station KRM Radio. On 20th February 1985 at Stockport Magistrates' Court the company was fined £500 for an offence under Section 1(1) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949. Two principals of the company were each fined £500 plus a sentence of one month's imprisonment suspended for two years.

Investigations are continuing into the activities of another company. As its involvement has not as yet been established in a court of law it would be improper for me to name it.
