HC Deb 10 December 1985 vol 88 cc619-20W
1983. Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average take-home pay of a basic-grade speech therapist working in the National Health Service; and how this compares in real terms with average take-home pay in (a) 1980 and (b)

Mr. Whitney

We do not have information about take-home pay, which varies with an individual's personal circumstances. New entrant speech therapists normally join the National Health Service in the senior II grade. The pay scales for that grade for the years requested are as follows:

1 April 1980 1 April 1983 1 April 1985
£ £ £
Minimum 5,330 6,345 6,955
Maximum 6,274 7,468 8,187

These rates do not include London weighting or any other allowances which may be earned.

Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many vacancies exist for speech therapists in the National Health Service in English and Wales; and what are the equivalent figures for 1980 and 1983.

Mr. Whitney

We do not collect this information centrally.
