HL Deb 27 November 1984 vol 457 c885WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many Iranians have been deported from the United Kingdom to Iran after refusal of asylum since 1st January 1983, and how many Iranians have been refused asylum but granted exceptional leave to remain outside the Immigration Rules since 1st January 1983.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Lord Elton)

Between 1st January 1983 and 31st October 1984 one Iranian national was deported after being refused asylum in the United Kingdom. Three other Iranian nationals who were deported had applied for asylum but subsequently withdrew their applications. Figures for the entire period requested showing those granted exceptional leave to remain outside the Immigration Rules are not available but, between 1st July 1983 and 30th June 1984, 425 Iranian nationals were granted exceptional leave to remain outside the Immigration Rules.
