HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 c225W
39. Mr. Ashdown

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many computers there are in his Department over which the United States could claim extra-territorial jurisdiction under the United States Export Administration Act; and whether he has any policy about compliance with that Act as to the movements of such computers.

Mr. Butler

The majority of MOD computers are of United Kingdom manufacture. United States export control regulations have no force in United Kingdom law and the Ministry of Defence makes its own decisions on the use and deployment of its computers.
