Mr. Jack Thompson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received urging the continuation of zero rating for value added tax purposes of building works or extensions under the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970.

Mr. Hayhoe

I am not aware that any such representations have been received.

Mr. Proctor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the yield to his Department of levying value added tax at 15 per cent. on each of the following:(a) food, (b) books, (c) newspapers and periodicals, (d) water, (e) fuel and power, (f) construction, (g) transport and (h) young children's clothing and footwear; and if he will make a statement.
