HL Deb 11 June 1984 vol 452 cc986-7WA
Lord Beaumont of Whitley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much they contribute to the World Health Organisation and what influence they have on the way such money is spent.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Lord Glenarthur)

The United Kingdom's contribution to the World Health Organisation for 1984 was £7,484,000, which represents 4.59 per cent. of the total WHO budget. Apart from informal contacts with the World Health Organisation, in which, inter alia, programme budget matters are discussed, the United Kingdom along with all member states has the opportunity fully to discuss the content of the organisation's overall budget before it is approved in the World Health Assembly. The programme budget for each region is also drawn up in consultation with all member states in the region and is subject to approval by member states in the regional committee. The Comptroller and Auditor General audits the organisation's accounts.
