§ Mr. Lathamasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will list the countries other than Israel currently affected by a European Community suspension of licences for the sale of defence equipment; and when each suspension was imposed.
§ Mr. LuceDefence Sales policy is a matter for individual Governments. The Ten do however observe United Nations arms embargoes and following the invasions of the Falklands and the Lebanon, took coordinated action to limit the sale of defence equipment to Argentina and Israel respectively. The embargo on Argentina has now been lifted. The restrictions on Israel remain in force but are kept under regular review.
