HL Deb 23 January 1984 vol 447 c130WA
Lord Evans of Claughton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they propose to reinstate elections for the metropolitan county councils and the Greater London Council if they do not carry through their proposals to abolish the metropolitan county councils and Greater London Council in the 1984–85 parliamentary Session; and, if so, when such elections would be held.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Bellwin)

Provision will be made so that, if abolition does not take place, the elections can be reinstated at the earliest opportunity.
