HC Deb 27 February 1984 vol 55 cc25-6W
Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportion of students on current certificate of qualification for social workers courses are from the ethnic minority groups.

Sir Keith Joseph

This information is not available centrally. However, I am informed by the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work that between 8 and 10 per cent. of all students accepted for CQSW courses since 1981 have been non-British. The central council will publish shortly the results of the survey from which the information was taken.

Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportion of students on current certificate of qualifications for social workers courses are from non-academic backgrounds.

Sir Keith Joseph

This information is not held by the Department. I understand however, that the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work publishes an annual report on applications; the latest being for the 1982 intake. The report includes information on the academic qualifications of those accepted for CQSW courses.
