Mr. Ashdown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the personal data held on Customs and Excise computers for a self-employed person registered for value added tax.

Information stored and processed on Customs and Excise computers does not distinguish the self-employed.

Mr. Ashdown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether indices held at Inland Revenue accounts offices of names and addresses of self-employed taxpayers and pay-as-you-earn employers are held on computers.

Mr. Moore

Indices of names and addresses of taxpayers assessed under schedule D income tax and of pay-as-you-earn employers are held on computer at Inland Revenue account offices. No separate index is maintained of self-employed taxpayers.
