HC Deb 21 February 1984 vol 54 cc494-5W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in view of the improved prognosis for the treatment of end stage renal failure, he will take steps to provide facilities for 45 to 50 new end stage renal failure cases per million; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

I have nothing to add at present to my reply to the hon. Member on Friday 3 February at column406.

Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the treatment rate per million for new end stage renal failure patients by home dialysis, hospital dialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and transplant for England and for each regional and district health authority; what is the estimated length of life for end stage renal failure patients who receive none of the above treatment; if he will give the estimated number of deaths from end stage renal failure in each of the above authorities which could have been avoided if such treatment had been provided; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

The latest available information on new patients starting treatment is that given in my reply to the hon. Member on 20 January at column334–5. The forms of treatment to which new patients are allocated are not recorded centrally. We are not able to give the estimates requested by the hon. Member.
