HL Deb 08 February 1984 vol 447 cc1263-4WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the cruise missile base at Greenham Common is under American command and, if so, whether this is the case in other bases jointly manned by British and American forces.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces (Lord Trefgarne)

At RAF Greenham Common the cruise missile wing and its administrative support elements are commanded by a United States Air Force officer although there is a Royal Air Force station commander, and British security personnel there are under Royal Air Force command. Similarly, at other Royal Air Force stations made available to the United States Air Force there are Royal Air Force station commanders with United States Air Force officers in command of operational and support forces.
