HC Deb 03 February 1984 vol 53 cc401-2W
Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many copies of the 1981 consultation document "Drinking Sensibly" were distributed up to the end of 1983;

(2) if he will waive the charge of £2.95 per copy for the consultation document "Drinking Sensibly", in order that it might be made more widely available;

(3) how many replies have been received to the consultation document "Drinking Sensibly", published in 1981; and when it is his intention to comment upon those replies.

Mr. John Patten

Approximately 5,000 copies of "Drinking Sensibly"* had been sold or distributed by the end of 1983. It was reprinted in March 1983 in response to demand and continues to be available. There are no plans to waive the charge.

The purpose of this discussion document was to provide facts and present issues to aid public debate and discussion on the question of alcohol misuse, rather than to invite correspondence.

Responses include the use of the material in press articles and conferences and we have had some letters. We take account of views expressed when particular issues are being considered.
