HC Deb 14 December 1984 vol 69 cc629-30W
Mr. Ashdown

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the Government's policy on current moves being considered by the EEC to take anti-dumping moves against Japanese typewriters.

Mr. Channon

The European Commission opened an anti-dumping investigation into imports of electronic typewriters from Japan on 24 March 1984 following a complaint by the Committee of European Typewriter Manufacturers. The investigation is now nearing completion: both producer and consumer interests have been consulted. It is understood that provisional remedies are to be announced shortly, and these will be studied carefully by my Department. At this stage, any proposals are confidential.
