HL Deb 22 February 1983 vol 439 cc744-5WA
Lord Boothby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that they have enough fishery protection vessels in the Royal Navy to ensure the enforcement of the Fishery Regulations now agreed to by the European Economic Community.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Ferrers)

The Royal Navy's fishery protection vessels, in conjunction with our aerial surveillance forces, are fully adequate to enforce the common fisheries policy. Their skill and competence were amply demonstrated last month in the North Sea. We keep our fishery protection resources under continual review, and changes can be, and are, made when necessary.
