asked Her Majesty's Government:

(a) How many reports were obtained by Judges of the Court of Session in 1982 relating to the interim custody of, or interim access to, the children of marriages which were the subject of divorce proceedings (whether such proceedings were instituted in or before 1982), and

(b) How many such reports were written by (i) members of the Faculty of Advocates; (ii) solicitors; (iii) social workers.

During 1982, the court called for reports for the purpose of satisfying itself as to proposed arrangements for the care and upbringing of a child on 397 occasions. The appropriate local social work authority was appointed to report in 220 cases, a member of the Faculty of Advocates in 174 cases and a solicitor in three cases.
