HL Deb 02 August 1982 vol 434 c659WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have studied the speech of Professor Bernard Knight, professor of forensic medicine at Cardiff University, to a British Medical Association symposium on 14th July, in which he claimed that alcohol was a catalyst for homicide and all forms of violence, and whether they will commission research on this matter.

Lord Elton

As I have indicated in reply to previous Questions by the noble Lord, the Home Office is keeping under review the possibility of undertaking research into the relationship between the consumption of alcohol and the commission of criminal offences. The speech to which the noble Lord refers does not point to new grounds for research.
