HC Deb 12 November 1981 vol 12 c138W
Mr. Ray Powell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total number of days lost through sickness of employed males over the age of 60 years.

Mrs. Chalker

I have been asked to reply.

Information is not available precisely in the form requested. However, in the year ending 31 May 1980 the days of certified incapacity of males over the age of 60, for the purpose of sickness, invalidity and industrial injury benefits, totalled 89 million. If those people whose incapacity lasted throughout the year are excluded from the count, the total falls to 28.1 million days.
