HL Deb 29 January 1980 vol 404 c834WA
Lord VAIZEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What would the per capita GNP of the United Kingdom be in the Year 2000, expressed as a proportion of the European average GNP, if the estimates in the report of the Advisory Committee on Airports Policy, December 1979, Appendix III, Annex I, are accepted.

Lord TREFGARNE

On the basis of the assumptions used in the forecasts prepared for the Advisory Committee on Airports Policy, theper capita gross domestic product (GDP) for the United Kingdom in the year 2000 would be about 69 per cent. of the average for OECD—Europe, using 1978 prices and exchange rates. The result has been expressed in GDP terms because GNP figures are not readily available on a consistent basis for all the countries concerned. This substitution is unlikely to affect the result significantly.

House adjourned at twenty. minutes before eleven o'clock.
