HL Deb 28 March 1979 vol 399 cc1646-7WA
Baroness FISHER of REDNAL

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will provide figures showing the numbers of multi-handicapped blind persons between the ages of 16 years and 40 years who are accommodated in hospitals for the mentally handicapped.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

In England and Wales on 31st March, 1977, there were 978 registered blind persons aged 16 and over resident in hospitals for the mentally handicapped. However, some blind residents in these hospitals are not registered. Comparable information is not available for Scotland or Northern Ireland.
