HC Deb 26 July 1979 vol 971 c486W
Mr. Bowden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what plans he has for using the three-wheeler invalid trikes that have not been allocated and are not in use at the present time;

(2) how many three-wheeler invalid trikes are in use at the present time;

(3) how many three-wheeler invalid trikes have not been allocated and are not in use at the present time.

Mr. Prentice

Some 13,500 invalid three-wheelers are currently on issue to disabled people. About 2,000 vehicles are available as reserves for immediate issue and a rather smaller number are held in store. As the manufacture of new vehicles ceased two years ago, all these vehicles are being retained in order to discharge the Government's undertaking to former invalid vehicle scheme beneficiaries who continue to use the three-wheeler that they will be kept mobile, except where increasing disability makes this unavoidable.
