HC Deb 23 July 1979 vol 971 c27W
Mr. Higgins

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will estimate the total number of traffic wardens now employed in the United Kingdom; the total costs of employing them and the total revenue raised from parking meters.

Mr. Brittan

On 30 April 1979 there were in England and Wales 4,531 traffic wardens, costing approximately £18 million a year. There is no central record of the total revenue received from parking meters.
