§ Mr. FootBetween February 1974 and December 1978 the General Index of Retail Prices increased by 101 per cent. Between February 1974 and November 1978, after discounting the effects of the three day working week on the 1974 figure, the older series Monthly Index of Average Earnings in Production and Certain Other Industries increased by 109 per cent. The basic parliamentary salary has increased by 53 per cent. in this period.
