HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 c74W
Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will recommend that the next frigate to be built for the Royal Navy should be named HMS "Gosport" in recognition of the important and historic links between the town of Gosport and the Royal Navy.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

"Gosport" does not fit into the categories of names used for current classes of major warships, but this suggestion will be taken into account when possible names for future classes are considered.
