HL Deb 17 December 1979 vol 403 cc1525-6WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What financial assistance they will provide to enable the dependants of a student from Zimbabwe living with him in the United Kingdom to return home after a settlement.

Lord CARRINGTON

The Overseas Development administration pays only the return fares of students themselves who are financed under their training programmes. I am considering carefully, in view of the progress of the talks at Lancaster House, whether there is a case for a concession for the dependants of students from Zimbabwe, but I can give no undertaking in this regard at present. If the noble Lord has a particular case in mind, perhaps he would write to me.
