HC Deb 17 December 1979 vol 976 c37W
44. Mr. Archer

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he has received a letter from the chairman of the British section of Amnesty International relating to export control of electronic surveillance equipment to States with repressive Governments; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Parkinson

I received a letter on 20 July. The reply to that letter explained that military and para-military police equipment is subject to export control, but that similar treatment for civil goods would in general have an unacceptable impact on United Kingdom export business.
