HL Deb 04 December 1979 vol 403 cc682-3WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will summarise the information contained in Synopsis of Medical Jurisprudence by Dr. H. N. Bakshi concerning determination of age by means of X-rays; whether they consider this to be a definitive text in this matter; what advice is given by Dr. Bakshi regarding the errors inherent in the process; and whether they are aware that the Canadian immigration authorities have abandoned the use of X-rays for age estimation as being inherently unreliable.

Lord CULLEN of ASHBOURNE

I would ask the noble Lord to await the results of the review currently being undertaken into the arrangements for medical examination of immigrants, including the use of X-rays.
