HC Deb 03 December 1979 vol 975 cc63-4W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether Persian nationals are entitled to claim supplementary benefit.

Mrs. Chalker

As with other foreign nationals, entitlement to supplementary benefit for an Iranian national depends on the immigration conditions governing his stay in this country. Benefit is normally refused to those who are admitted for a temporary period on the understanding that they will maintain themselves during their stay. Those admitted who are not subject to this condition, including people admitted for settlement, can get benefit if they satisfy the normal conditions for it.
