HL Deb 04 April 1979 vol 399 cc1972-3WA
Lord VA1ZEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish a table giving the main sources of Government revenue from:

  1. (i) direct taxation;
  2. (ii) indirect taxation;
  3. (iii) capital taxation;
  4. (iv) company taxation;
presenting also this information in percentage form for 1945, 1950, 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970 and each subsequent year.

Lord McCLUSKEY

The information requested is given in the table below:

(4) Includes taxes paid by companies.
(5) Taxes paid by companies on income and on capital only. The figures for company taxation for the years after 1972 are affected by the introduction of the imputation system of corporation tax in April 1973. Prior to April 1973, tax paid on dividends received by the personal sector, for example, was included in personal taxation. From 1973 the advance corporation tax paid by companies in respect of dividend payments is included in company taxation.
(6) Figures for 1945 are not available.
