HL Deb 29 November 1977 vol 387 c1257WA
Lord CRAIGTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many seizures have been made under the Endangered Species Act 1976; and of what species, of what value and what has been done with the animals, plants and goods seized.

Baroness BIRK

Goods imported in contravention of the Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act 1976 have been seized by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise on 15 occasions. The species were lanner falcon, kestrel, various birds of the parrot family, skins of tiger, leopard, serval and genet, and cactus plants. The values in most cases are not known.

Certain of the items have been disposed of in accordance with the provisions of the Customs and Excise Act 1952 after consultation with the Department of the Environment; the remainder are still held by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise.
