HC Deb 24 May 1977 vol 932 c431W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland under what circumstances a prominent business man was murdered by the Irish Republican Army in Rosslea; what were the number of his attackers; what type of weapon was used; and what arrests have been made.

Mr. Mason

Shortly after 4.30 on the afternoon of Thursday 12th May Mr. Douglas Deering was shot dead in the supermarket that he owned in Main Street, Rosslea, County Fermanagh. It is believed that three men entered the supermarket and fired two shots with a handgun. Mr. Deering was hit in the head and chest and died almost immediately. The murderers are believed to have escaped by car towards the border. To date no arrests have been made in connection with this murder. Police inquiries are being vigorously pursued.
