HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 cc365-6W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will institute a campaign to make Government offices in the United Kingdom more accessible for the handicapped.

Mr. Marks

Government Departments are expected to abide by the provisions of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970. The Property Services Agency of my Department ensures that facilities for the disabled are provided in new Crown buildings which are expected to be used by the public. Suitable arrangements are also made whenever possible in newly leased buildings and in existing buildings that are to be modernised. Government Departments are usually able to make arrangements for disabled staff to work in buildings where facilities are available.
