HC Deb 28 July 1977 vol 936 cc536-7W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland under what circumstances Mr. Graham Fenton, a prison officer, was murdered; how many IRA men took part in the killing; what sort of guns were used; how many bullets were fired; and how many arrests have been made.

Mr. Mason

At 27 minutes past 11 on the evening of Saturday 23rd July, two armed men entered the Wayside Inn, Clogh Hills, Co. Antrim. They ordered the customers to lie on the floor. One man stood by the door while the other fired seven shots from an M1 carbine at Mr. Graham Fenton, killing him and wounding another man. The gunmen escaped in a car driven by a third armed man. No arrests have yet been made but police inquiries into the murder are continuing.
