  1. (a) How many people received legal advice and assistance, and
  2. (b) how many people were granted legal aid in civil proceedings
under Part I of the Legal Aid Act 1974 in each of the last three financial years.

  1. (a) Number of bills paid for legal advice and assistance
    • 1974–75: 180,695
    • 1975–76: 254,558
    • 1976–77: 291,961
  2. (b) Number of civil legal aid certificates issued
    • 1974–75: 196,580
    • 1975–76: 203,908
    • 1976–77: 207,106
