HC Deb 24 June 1976 vol 913 c642W
Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what special arrangements exist for the payment by his Department for adaptations to the homes of war pensioners; what yardsticks are allowed for various types of adaptations; when these yardstick figures were last increased; what was the total expenditure on such adaptations in 1974–75; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Any war pensioners who are eligible for the supply of a powered vehicle can apply for such payments through my Department's artificial limb and appliance service. The maximum grant is £250, having been increased to this level in 1963, and the total expenditure on the scheme in 1974–75 was £12,500.

In addition, war pensioners may be eligible to receive similar grants from local authorities under Section 2 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970.
