HL Deb 15 June 1976 vol 373 c501WA
Lord INGLEWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many police forces have facilities in their areas for special constables to attend residential training courses and for holding examinations for special constables similar to those taken by members of the regular police forces before they are eligible for promotion to sergeant or inspector.

Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH

Eight police forces in England and Wales, including the Metropolitan police, run their own residential training for special constables. One force holds examinations which qualify special constables for promotion to the rank of sergeant.
