Why eleven Colobus monkeys, which species is listed in the Schedule to the Animals (Restriction of Importation) Act 1964, were permitted entry from Tanzania in November while infected with measles (from which they subsequently died), and whether imports of this kind from the same source will be prohibited in future.
§ Baroness BIRKThe monkeys to which the noble Lord refers were the subject of an article in theVeterinary Record in November 1975, but they were imported in the summer of 1973. They showed no sign of infection from measles at the time of import, but were subject to the normal six months' quarantine and died well within that period. We are advised that there is no case for a prohibition.
