Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will publish in theOfficial Report the names of the organisations and individuals who comprise the non-statutory users group consulted by the Registrar of Companies and his department in connection with the drafting of Clause 24 of the Companies (No. 2) Bill, now being considered by Standing Committee C.

Mr. Clinton Davis

The Registrar of Companies holds regular meetings with all major users of Companies House to discuss matters of common concern. Arising from one such meeting on 16th May 1974 it was agreed that a small working group should meet more frequently to give particular attention to issues arising from the modernisation and dispersal programme. The registra greatly values the advice received from the Group who are representative of all organisations using the services provided by Companies House.

The working group has been kept informed of the progress of parliamentary debate on the Companies (No. 2) Bill and has expressed its support for measures designed to improve access to statutory information, particularly those relating to the size, durability and legibility of documents delivered to the registrar. The group was not consulted on the drafting of any clause but took no exception to Clauses 24 and 25 of the Bill and, indeed, on 28th July unanimous support for Clause 25 was expressed by a general meeting of regular users.

The current members of the group are:

  • Mr. J. P. Landau, Association of Certified Accountants.
  • Mr. B. D. Barton, Institute of Chartered Accountants.
  • Mr. J. E. Hampson, Committee of London Clearing Banks.
  • Mr. P. Granville-White, Institute of Credit Management.
