asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authority social services departments have provided persons with lectures, games, outings or other recreational facilities outside the home or assistance in taking advantage of educational facilities in each year since 1971; and what was the total sum spent on each service.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authority social services departments have provided persons with vacations or holidays whether at holiday homes or otherwise, in each year since 1971; and what was the total sum spent on each service.

Information is available only on a financial year basis, commencing with 1972–73. The gross sums spent on the provision of holidays for disabled people were £30,000—1972–73—and £36,000—1973–74. The 1974–75 figures are not yet available. All the then existing social services authorities incurred expenditure in providing this service.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authority social service departments have provided persons with wireless, television, library or similar recreational facilities in each year since 1971; and what was the sum spent on each service.

In the financial year 1973–74, the following authorities provided assistance with either wireless or television: Anglesey, Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Glamorgan, Monmouthshire, Montgomeryshire, Pembrokeshire and Cardiff CBC.

Information regarding the sums spent on these services, and library and similar recreational facilities, is not available centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. Information regarding 1974–75 is not yet available.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what action he has taken under Section 2(1) of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 to provide "general guidance" to local authority social services departments to provide facilities available under Section 2 of that Act; and if he will make a statement.

The Department has issued circulars and other forms of guidance to the relevant authorities as necessary.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authority social service departments have provided persons with assistance in arranging for the carrying out of any work or adaptation in their homes or the provision of any additional facility designed to secure operation, safety, comfort or convenience in each year since 1971; and what was the total sum spent on each service.

Information is available only on a financial year basis, commencing with 1972–73. The gross sums spent on assistance to disabled persons in respect of home adaptations and the provision of facilities were £98,000—1972–73—and £163,000—1973–74. The 1974–75 figures are not yet available. All the then existing social services authorities incurred expenditure in providing this service.
