HC Deb 12 November 1974 vol 881 c93W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will recommend the extension of entitlement to the General Service Medal to those members of the Territorial Army in Northern Ireland who carry out guard duties during the present IRA campaign, on the same general basis under which it is granted to the Ulster Defence Regiment.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

There are no plans at present to extend entitlement to the General Service Medal to the T&AVR in Northern Ireland. The UDR has an operational rôle in support of the Regular Army in Northern Ireland, whereas the T&AVR is a reservist force.
