HC Deb 23 May 1974 vol 874 cc254-5W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how large family allowance payments would have to be to take all working families off the family income supplement at the new prescribed levels if there were a one-parent family allowance of (a) £1 for each child, (b) £2 for each child, (c) £3 for each child, and (d) £4 for each child per week.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

An allowance or benefit payable only to one-parent families would not affect the position of the great majority of families who are at present receiving family allowances. The information required is, accordingly, the same as I gave my hon. Friend in my reply of 9th May.—[Vol. 873, c.267.]

Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what extent the official retail price index has risen since family allowances were last increased.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

By 55.7 per cent.
