HC Deb 18 March 1974 vol 870 c20W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what foods are currently subsidised; and by what amounts in the current year.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

The retail prices of milk and butter are currently subsidised: milk by about 1p a pint and butter by 2p a lb., half of which is financed from EEC funds. In addition, a special subsidy on butter is being paid to people in receipt of social assistance who are able to obtain 1lb. of butter per month at 9p below the normal price, all of it from EEC funds.
